(March 16, 2022, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador) – The 2022 cruise season in St. John’s will begin on June 12, 2022 with the arrival of the Ocean Endeavour, an Adventure Canada expedition cruise vessel. The Port of St. John’s is expecting 30 cruise ships, with most vessels scheduled to arrive in August and September; the season will end mid-October.

“Cruise ships returned to operations around the world last year and we are optimistic about this upcoming season after a two-year hiatus,” said Sean Hanrahan, President & CEO, SJPA. “The SJPA has been working collaboratively with our partners and regulatory authorities at all levels in preparation for the safe resumption of cruise operations and look forward to welcoming cruise passengers to our historic and world-class destination.”

“Community, passenger and crew safety remains a top priority for the cruise ship industry, as it does for the SJPA.” said, Melissa Williams, Manager, Marine Operations and Harbour Master, SJPA. “Cruise lines have developed very stringent safety and operational protocols on-board ship while in port.”

The Government of Canada’s new public health plan for cruise ships provides a response framework between governments, health authorities and industry and, in summary, includes details with respect to:

  1. Onboard management processes to limit or prevent the spread of COVID.
  2. Ship to shore checklist for each vessel arrival.
  3. Testing and reporting requirements.
