Learn moreWe invest annually in the leaders of tomorrow with our scholarship program — to date, we are proud to have given over $157,500 in educational funds to deserving students. For over 20 years, the Port’s annual Harbour Lights Christmas fundraiser has generated funds for the School Lunch Association to assist in preparing more than 7,100 meals per day for distribution throughout 46 area schools. The Port hosts a number of exciting and interactive events throughout the year. For example, partnering with the Sound Symposium, Cruise St. John’s helps orchestrate the Harbour Symphony, which gathers musicians together to play ships’ horns as an ensemble, entertaining all those within hearing distance with specially-composed pieces by renowned artists. From yacht races to special commemorations, we are proud to be involved in community-building activities of all kinds.
Below are just a few highlights of our involvement.
Each year, the SJPA commits 0.5% of its operating revenues - approximately $50,000 annually - to charitable giving across Newfoundland and Labrador. Through our partnership with United Way Newfoundland and Labrador, we fund three community organizations every year, supporting their work to address both immediate needs and long-term solutions in our communities.

Throughout the year, we host a full calendar of events. In a city that is a hotspot for local art and culture, the port is a unique backdrop for a variety of music events, television broadcasts and film shoots. We participate in the signature event of the internationally renowned Sound Symposium, an event at which the Harbour Symphony features original music composed for, and performed by, ships’ horns.
